Situated at the intersection of the American and Sacramento rivers, Sacramento, the state capitol, boasts a moderate climate with plenty of activities and sights to enjoy year round.
Incorporated in 1850, Sacramento is the oldest incorporated city in California, and the sixth-largest.
The capitol building, located in the heart of Sacramento, offers the California State Capitol Museum. This museum houses exhibits and collections, and offers public or group tours.
Old Town Sacramento is always an enjoyable destination, and offers carriage rides, museums, and plenty of shops and restaurants. There are also sightseeing and brunch cruises on the river, and seasonal train rides on weekends and most holidays.
Another sightseeing destination is the Sacramento Zoo, which opened in 1927, and is home to over 140 rare, native and endangered species. There are always new events and exhibits, therefore no two visits are ever the same.
Located across from the Sacramento Zoo is Fairytale Town, a 2.5 acre park that houses an outdoor children-s museum. It offers special events, theater performances and educational programs.
Named after one of the primary founders of Sacramento, Sutter-s Fort is the oldest restored fort in the United States. Volunteers help recreate the past with a variety of activities and programs.
